It's hard work - President Bush says so

Just for the heck of it...

Number of times President Bush used the words "hard" or "hardest" in the Kerry/Bush presidential debate...

1. It's hard work
2. It's incredibly hard
3. It's the hardest decision a president makes
4. There's a lot of good people working hard
5. There's a lot of really good people working hard
6. It's hard work
7. It's certainly hard to tell
8. It's a -- and it's hard work
9. I understand how hard it is
10. I see on the TV screens how hard it is
11. The plan says we'll train Iraqi soldiers so they can do the hard work
12. It is hard work
13. It is hard work
14. It's hard work
15. You know, my hardest
16. The hardest part of the job
17. You know, it's hard work to try to love her as best as I can (That one really deserved to be quoted in full!)
18. It's hard work
19. Everybody knows it's hard work
20. I understand how hard it is
21. What has been a pretty hard experience
22. Have to make some hard choices
23. We've done a lot of hard work

Seven of these instances was in the two-minute response to how the miscalculation in Iraq had been made.

Number of times Senator Kerry used the words "hard" or "hardest" in the debate: zero.

I'd be very surprised if "it's hard work" was deliberately on-message (as opposed to the jabs against Kerry and the "free Iraq = more secure America" mantra. I suspect it was a subconscious reflection of the pressure Bush is feeling. The over-repetition of that phrase really does paint him as a whinger.
