It becomes clear quite early that Stay is a mindfuck film in the vein of Fight Club or Jacob's Ladder. The directorial conceits hit you over the head with this, so the final scene is no surprise at all. However those conceits - in and of themselves - are elegantly done. Director Marc Forster, DoP Roberto Schaefer, production designer Kevin Thompson, special effects supervisor Steve Kirshoff (I think it was) and editor Matt Chesse execute a series of disarming, stylish transitions and textures. It's a good looking movie. The acting is fine but unspectacular and the script unfortunately not all that involving. Hard to believe it sold for $1.5M. From about third of the way through, I stayed to watch for the technical elements.
